Albanian Tenor · Festivali i Këngës
A voice silenced for twenty years by tyranny, yet never broken. From the stages of the RTSH Festival to the darkness of communist exile and back again.
Nevruz Yzeiri is an Albanian tenor originally from the Devoll district in the Korcë region of southeastern Albania.
He first appeared on stage at the 5th Festivali i Këngës në RTSH in December 1966, performing "Kënga Jonë e Re." Over the following years, he became a celebrated presence at Albania's most prestigious music event, earning a 2nd Prize at the 10th Festival in 1971 for the duet "Në Të Dy" with Kleopatra Skarço.
After the 10th Festival, Nevruz Yzeiri was banned from performing and appearing on stage by the communist regime. He was classified as "interned/deported" and his name is recorded in the Online Archive of Victims of Communism in Albania.
After the fall of communism, Yzeiri returned to the stage at the 30th Festival in December 1991 with "Këmbanat e Shpresës" (The Bells of Hope), winning 3rd Prize.
